Immerse yourself in the thrilling gameplay of Adventure Island as you guide Master Higgins through perilous stages in a quest to save his beloved. Be prepared to face enemies, treacherous obstacles, and challenging boss battles in this classic NES game.

Master Higgins must navigate each stage carefully, avoiding enemies, their attacks, and environmental hazards such as pitfall traps and bodies of water. His health gradually depletes over time, and stumbling upon rocks further diminishes his health. When his health gauge reaches zero, a life is lost. However, extra lives offer a chance to continue the adventure from the last checkpoint passed. Collect fruit or a refreshing milk bottle to replenish health, with a maximum capacity of 16 points. Achieving score milestones rewards extra lives at 50,000, 100,000, and 200,000 points. Discover the elusive Honey Girl, a fairy-like creature, for temporary invincibility, allowing Higgins to defeat enemies by simply touching them. Seek out the special pot hidden in each stage to double the end-of-stage bonus.

Higgins begins each life unarmed, but by uncovering a stone axe located at specific spots within stages, he gains the ability to attack. Alternatively, Higgins can trade the stone axe for magical fireballs, granting him a longer range and the ability to destroy rocks and rolling stones, impervious to the stone axe’s effect.

Eggs play a crucial role throughout Adventure Island. To break an egg, the player must touch it or strike it with a weapon twice. Hidden within eggs are numerous bonus items, offering various advantages and rewards. However, beware the eggplant, a negative item that drains Higgins’ life meter. Some eggs remain concealed, requiring keen observation. Indications of hidden eggs include disappearing weapons mid-air or specific jump points. Some hidden spots lead to bonus stages, triggered by standing still for a short period. In these stages, gather a sequence of fruits, each worth 500 points, until Higgins eventually falls into a pitfall. Rest assured, no lives are lost during bonus stages, and Higgins returns to the regular stage at the next checkpoint.

Prepare for intense encounters with the Evil Witch Doctor, the formidable boss character, at the fourth round of each area. The Witch Doctor can transform his head into eight different forms, each requiring a specific number of hits to defeat. As you progress through the game, the number of hits needed increases, presenting a greater challenge. Overcome his various forms, each with unique attack patterns, durability, and speed. Finally, vanquish his eighth and ultimate form, causing the Witch Doctor to meet his demise and saving the captive girl.
